Intro to Human Design: Unlocking Your Unique Gifts

To really get what Human Design is all about, it helps to know a bit about where it comes from. It’s a unique system for self-discovery that blends astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, chakras, and even quantum physics. Channeled by Ra Uru Hu in 1987, Human Design gives you a kind of energetic blueprint—showing how you're wired to make decisions, move through life, and find more flow with less resistance.

To get started in understanding your own chart, we’ve provided a simple guide to introduce you to some basic principles of Human Design: Type, Strategy, Authority, Not-Self Theme.

What you’ll need:

What you’re discovering:

  • Your Type represents your energetic role in life. Think of it as a primary frequency or how you are meant to operate life.

  • Your Strategy is your way of being in the world that is free from resistance. When you are aligned with your strategy, life feels easier. You feel more joy and vitality. You are in flow.

  • Your Authority helps you optimize how and when you make decisions. It’s your inner compass.

  • Your Not-Self Theme is the emotion you feel when you are not operating in harmony with your design; your True-Self theme is the feeling you get when you are in alignment.

To begin:

  • Review the chart you received via email

  • Match and dive deeper into the “Type” listed in your pdf with one of the corresponding types below

  • Reflect on how your Type, Strategy, and Authority show up or don’t show up in the work you are currently doing

  • You’re a builder. You are designed to do work you love in a step by step process.

    • You’re here to respond to life; do what lights you up. Your Strategy is to wait to respond.

    • Your Authority is either Emotional, Wait for Clarity, or Trust Gut Response.

    • Your Not-Self Theme is Frustration and your True-Self Theme is Satisfaction.

    • You’re an Express Builder. You are designed to do work you love in a quick and efficient way.

    • You’re a hybrid of Manifestor & Generator. Your Strategy is to wait to respond, then inform.

    • Your Authority is either Emotional, Wait for Clarity, or Trust Gut Response.

    • Your Not-Self Theme is Frustration and your True-Self Theme is Satisfaction.

    • You’re an Initiator. You are designed to initiate and get things started.

    • Your Strategy is to inform others before you act.

    • Your Authority is either Emotional, Wait for Clarity, Trust Instincts, or Willful Determination.

    • Your Not-Self Theme is Anger and your True-Self Theme is Peace.

    • You’re an Advisor. You are designed to advise the Generators and Manifesting Generators.

    • You’re here to guide others. Your Strategy is to wait for invitation.

    • Your Authority is either Emotional, Wait for Clarity, Trust Instincts, Willful Determination, or Listen to What You Say.

    • Your Not-Self Theme is Bitterness and your True-Self Theme is Success.

    • You’re an Evaluator. You are designed to reflect back to other how things are going.

    • Your Strategy is to wait 28 days (a lunar cycle) before big decisions.

    • Your Authority is to Reflect, Assess, and Discuss.

    • Your Not-Self Theme is Disappointment and your True-Self Theme is Surprise.

Journal prompts:

  • What are you here to communicate and who are you here to serve?

  • What have you been taught or conditioned to believe, but is not truly who you are?

  • Think about your Not-Self emotions. How have these feelings shown up for you in your work? What type of work were you doing? Who were you working with?

  • Now think about you True-Self emotions. How and when have these feelings shown up in your work?

  • What is uniquely yours to express in the world—and how does that shape the role you are here to play in your work or calling?

When you begin to live by your true self, not the conditioned self, your purpose doesn’t have to be chased. It reveals itself.
